Cast Of Midway - The attack on Pearl Harbor was a devastating blow to the American government and its people. We all at this time knew who the enemy was, and the result of Pearl Harbor made the United States a participant in World War II until the end. Midway covered the aftermath of our invasion, with American intelligence reporting that Midway Island would be the target of Japan's next major offensive to assert Axis power in the Pacific. Director Roland Emmerich, of Independence Day fame, brings this battle and the stories of the people who fought there to life, with mixed results. Overall, the fights are interesting and the actors do a good job, but the script is where the film falls short.
Midway is clever because it gives the audience two perspectives: American and Japanese. We can see the plans of both sides and how they work, even showing the attack on Pearl Harbor and the sinking of the USS Arizona as part of the Allied losses. The explosions and airplanes are very interesting, and the special effects made me feel like I was there during the battle, although if you look closely, you will realize that most of the things we are seen in this film have a special effect.

This movie is filled with many characters based on real WWII soldiers and Midway allows us to follow them to see what will happen to them in the end during this war. Patrick Wilson is Edwin T. Layton, the intelligence officer who predicted the attack on Pearl Harbor and accurately predicted the position of Japanese forces in the Pacific before the Battle of Midway. Ed Skrein is Richard "Dick" Best, a bomber who helps sink one Japanese fighter jet during the aforementioned war.

These are the two main characters worth following simply because we see them the most. That's not to say the other characters involved aren't important, it's just too much for me to keep up with. But the series contains good names like Woody Harrelson as Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, Luke Evans as Lieutenant Colonel Wade McClusky and Aaron Eckhart as Lieutenant Colonel. Jimmy Doolittle. Each of these characters share screen time, but the film treats them almost as secondary characters. They are only there in the background and, although we follow them for a short time, they are not the main focus of the film.
This hardly goes over the top with all the actors in this movie. Despite its intense 138-minute running time, Midway is too long and too crowded, takes place before and after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and offers so much information that I forgot a lot by the time the movie was over. conclude. We are taken from one scene to another, watching intelligence meetings, hearing phone calls from Washington, and watching pilots test before the war. Oh, and many days and times. Or the epilogue explains what happened to the characters we are following. Honestly, I forgot about a few while watching! There are some action moments in between that match the actual events, but if you ask me what happened... then I can't tell you.
Aside from the collection of characters, the writing is Midway's main weakness. The dialogue is very unconvincing and sometimes feels like a tired old cliché of a later fight. Some of the new recruits are scared, some are afraid of the job and there is always one person who will say something that will encourage them to come back and fight. While watching this movie, it reminded me of Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor. Do you remember that? Well, we get to see the raid as mentioned before and a brief moment of Doolittle's attack on Tokyo, but the movie tells the story in less than ten minutes. Yes, I stopped it.
Where the film shines are the scenes that detail the Japanese occupation, and I found myself really into watching these moments. I like stories where we see both sides of the story so we can understand both sides of the conflict. The special effects are impressive, as expected from Roland Emmerich's previous films like The Day After Tomorrow & 2012, but the runtime is full and the story itself doesn't go too far. There were too many characters to follow and I ended up getting less involved.

Midway is a movie for people who like war movies, especially if you know a lot about the war itself. They know a lot about this conflict and, while the battle sequences are interesting and sometimes intense, the unfocused writing tried to hold my attention. If the movie had stuck to the title of Midway itself and been shorter, then I would have given the movie a higher score, but as it stands, Midway is good. It has a great cast that cannot contain the story it is telling to keep you watching the screen with interest. At least it's an improvement from a Michael Bay movie, and that's saying a lot.
After all, if you really want to know more about the Battle of Midway, just watch the documentary. This is nothing more than watching special effects and people screaming for two hours. It was good, but, personally, I felt like I didn't learn anything.
