600 Oregon Stimulus - Oregon's Democratic lawmakers passed a new law this week that would issue incentive payments to families with special circumstances. The bill, which quickly passed the House and Senate, allows for just $600 to be given to low-income families who have a family member working during the disaster.

Oregon residents do not need to apply for a fee; Eligible residents will only receive a check or direct deposit (based on last year's taxes) later this year.

"Low-wage workers are an important part of our economy and are also the most vulnerable to rising costs of living," said Sen. Kathleen Taylor, chairman of the Senate Committee on Labor and Commerce, in a statement.

"Cash makes a big difference in the lives of working individuals and families. It can help pay electricity bills, buy needed medicine or essentials like diapers and groceries. Cash can also reduce stress, allowing support families to manage the challenges they face in their daily lives. House Bill 4157 is an opportunity to show support for our low-wage workers to do the jobs our economy depends on," he continued.

The bill's main sponsor, State Rep. Andrea Valderrama, said that this law will help families cope with rising living costs and inflation.

"Today many Oregonians, including me, are struggling to make ends meet. They can help you pay your utility bill, buy essential medications, or buy essentials like diapers and groceries.

This point of logic is especially ridiculous given that the only reason for the rising cost of living is the printing and irresponsible spending of fiat money. So, if you have a sign at home, the government of Oregon will respond to local inflation by doing exactly what they did to create the problem: expanding the market by providing free money. Then they pat themselves on the back for a job well done.

"Cost increases will disproportionately affect our lowest-paid workers. With this bill, we are reaching out to working families and individuals whose hard work is essential and the backbone of the economy," said State Rep. Rachel Prusak.

But Oregon's circular logic is nothing new for politicians, and Oregon isn't the only state offering free money to try to combat the negative effects of paying too much free money.

In California, the latest batch of $1,100 Golden State stimulus checks were given to eligible residents recently. Surprisingly, there is already talk of a new stimulus bill that will be passed in the coming months. What is the reason? Because the state has set aside a lot of free money to prevent inflation it now has more money.

Oregon lawmakers in March approved a one-time incentive payment for some low-income workers. The payments will be made to Oregonians who file their 2020 income tax return, a tax credit for low-income working families, who lived in the state in the last six months of that year.

The Oregon Department of Revenue said Wednesday it will distribute nearly $141.8 million to 236,000 eligible families. Payment is limited to one per household.

About $82 million will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of eligible people, while the remaining $60 million will be sent by mail. The state said eligible individuals will receive the money by July 1.

Rich Hoover, a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Revenue, said the payments are not subject to state or federal taxes.

To be eligible, Oregon residents must have lived in the state for the last six months of 2020 and claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit that same year.

"For most eligible Oregon families, you don't have to do anything to get the one-time payment," the Department of Revenue said in a statement.

"The money will be paid by direct deposit or check in the mail. Typically, you will receive this money using the refund option you selected on your tax return.
