460 S&w Revolver - The Smith & Wesson Model 460 is a Smith & Wesson five-shot, large-bore, single/double-action pistol chambered for the .460 S&W Magnum cartridge. It was designed as a hunting and dangerous protection rifle for use in Africa and Alaska. The gun is built on the company's largest and most durable frame, known as the X-Frame, and represents a joint effort between Smith & Wesson, Hornady and Cor-Bon.
The basic design of the Model 460 is based on other X-series revolvers and its counterpart, the Smith & Wesson Model 500, a 50-caliber revolver.

Smith & Wesson says the Model 460 XVR (XVR stands for X-treme Velocity Revolver) is the highest-velocity production revolver and the world's most powerful .45-caliber production revolver that shoots 200 grains (13 grams). with a velocity of 2,330 feet per second (710 meters per second) and a muzzle energy of 2,416 foot-pounds (3,276 joules).

This gun uses torque that starts slowly at 1 turn per 100 inches and builds up to 1 turn per 20 inches to accommodate the combination of heavy bullets, high pressure, and velocity.
The S&W Model 460 won the Shooting Academy's Pistol of the Year award when it was introduced in 2005.
Smith & Wesson offers several versions of this gun. Some with shorter barrels, such as the Model 460 ES, are intended for use in survival kits in small aircraft during crash landings rather than in Alaskan Bears.
