Fighter Jet Size - The appearance of the new J-20 (unofficially named "Black Eagle") raises many questions about the Chinese stealth fighter. Some experts think it is more capable than the F-22; others (and I am one of them) think that the real problem of the US with the J-20 is not the performance, equipment and capabilities of the aircraft (even though the US legacy fighters were designed 20 years earlier than the current ones Chinese or Russian fighters of the same "class"); the problem is that China can probably make thousands of them.
In any case, when comparing American and Chinese fighters, everyone is talking about the "fifth generation aircraft" which brings the concept of "fighter generation" back into the spotlight.
Fighter Jet Size
Generations are a common way to classify jet fighters. Typically, generations are "assigned" to fighters according to time frames that cover the peak period of entry into service for that aircraft.

The best definition I've found so far of fighter generations is in a 2009 article in Air Force Magazine, which suggests dividing generations based on ability:
Potential Generation 6: Extreme Stealth; effective in all flight modes (from subsonic to high speed); possible ability to "change shape"; smart skins; highly networked; extremely sensitive sensors; optional with crew; directed energy weapon.
In order to give readers a rough idea of the type of aircraft belonging to each generation based on the division above, I prepared the following table with the help of Tom Cooper / ACIG.org and Ugo Crisponi / Aviatiographic.com, who provided in profiles. It is not intended to show all the aircraft that theoretically belong to a generation and only includes the profiles available at the time of writing...
As I said on Twitter before, what such a table should allow you to understand at a glance is that the capabilities and appearance are inversely proportional: the previous generation aircraft look more better than more modern fighters...
