1911 Pistol 10mm - More is not always better. In fact, there is often a point of diminishing returns. In my naive opinion, I've always seen the 10mm round this way. It was just great stuff, too long, too loud, too loud, too much recoil. I mean, whatever cartridge the FBI throws at it probably isn't my cup of tea because it's so hard to shoot.
After that, until last week, I hadn't fired a single 10mm round. My opinions are based solely on gun knowledge, not personal experience. Will Springfield Armor change my mind with the introduction of the Ronin 1911 in 10mm?

I am not one to judge a book by its cover. At the same time, six months ago, when I opened the Springfield Armory and saw what was inside, I said, "Oh la la!" I had to say. The Ronin 9mm was a beauty in a box. I loved the two tone look and the rose colored bezel. And the new 10mm did not disappoint when I saw him.

The classic 1911 has its own charm. The Springfield Armory highlights what John Moses Browning started. Springfield forged slides and frames are the basis of their 1911 pistols. The stainless steel frame is left in white, and the smooth sides are just the right reflection of the polish that holds the light well (and the rounds have a nice matte finish). The hot salt on the forged slide contrasts nicely with the frame. Polished sliding pads match the flat frame and sporty rear and front sprockets. The sliders also have an adhesive coating on the frame.
The ronin's look is completed by a cloaked ronin box. The 10mm sample I received has a deeper color than the 9mm.
Springfield lets Rooney lead the way. Rather than the large markings common on today's handguns, the Ronin's markings on the slide are few and subtle. If you are looking for a classic 1911 pistol, the Ronin series of pistols are sure to fit the bill.
I knew the Ronin 10mm would be a good gun. What I wondered about was how it was shot. Remember, the 9mm was my introduction to the Ronin family of pistols. Of course, the 9mm 1911 was a dream to shoot. Adding a small millimeter doesn't seem to make much of a difference from a shooting standpoint.

However, the difference between 9mm and 10mm is significant. The diameter is not so important here, the total length of the cartridge is. The 9mm Parabellum cartridge is 1.169 inches long, while the 10mm has a 1.260 ring. It may not seem like much, but it is important. Between the difference in diameter and length, 10mm has plenty of room for more powder and heavier projectiles.
To be honest, I expected the Ronin 10mm to be the gun that showed me who was boss. I was actually prepared to deal with a bit of discomfort, especially on hot laps. However, I was very surprised. The 10mm Ronin was a lot of fun to shoot. Don't get me wrong, this gun is difficult, but it was an amazing shooter.
The Genesis Speed's trigger was clear and light, and when combined with the Tactical Rack rear and the red fiber optic front with a 5" forged stainless steel barrel, it was easy to get the shots I wanted to get, up close or at distance. . . . I ran 180-220 grain rounds and felt no recoil. The mass of the gun undoubtedly helped absorb recoil, but it was still incredibly fun to shoot. Plain and simple, this rifle is an easy way to shoot the 10mm it should be.

Like the 9mm Ronin, the 10mm has a 5-inch barrel, is 5.5 inches high, 8.6 inches long and weighs about 40 ounces. Ronin's capacity at 1+8 makes sense. I was able to load the 9th round into the mag, but to avoid risk of failure, my recommendation is to stick to the specified 8+1 capacity.
The 10mm Ronin features a forged stainless steel frame matched to a salt blue forged carbon steel slide.
I'm one of those people who needs proof when I buy a new gun. Before shooting the Ronin in 10mm, I had no proof of it, mainly due to my (mis)understanding of 10mm recoil.

Honestly, I'm not very shy. In fact, it can feel good to photograph something that takes a good photo every now and then. But the blow did not materialize as I thought. This gun changed my mind.
The Ronin 10mm is a great companion in places where you might run into an angry bear.
I was lucky enough to spend two summers fishing like crazy in the wilds of Alaska. Alaska is the land of great creatures. Big brown bear, black bear and deer. I already got a 12 gauge full of sliders. No doubt this is serious bear medicine. It's also big, uncomfortable and heavy.
The Ronin in 10mm is just the perfect tool for a long day (and night) on the river. No stock and long barrel for jam on my flight line. The Ronin is a smaller, lighter and more stylish solution to my old diffuser.

Another area where Ronin suits me is deer hunting. A 5-inch barrel and red fiber optic sight mean easy reach and hit.
Sometimes I may be a victim of thinking about what I know. The 10mm Roni is a good example of how I can make mistakes and be more open minded. Simply put, it was a blast. It was nice and sharp and filled an important niche as a very powerful semi-automatic handgun.
The Ronin is a beautiful gun. It shoots more than I expected and there is no doubt I will find a place in my arsenal for the 10mm Ronin. When I consider the very reasonable MSRP of $849, this powerful blaster becomes even easier to choose.
